Tsuruhashi Market (Koreatown)
Katteni Yakiniku is located in Tsuruhashi Market in an area commonly known as Koreatown. Comprising of over 800 shops and restaurants, many of which are yakiniku (Japanese BBQ) restaurants and Korean goods stores, the whole place has a retro vibe dating back to the postwar era. The market is frequented by both professional chefs and locals looking for good deals and unusual items.
So what makes Katteni Yakiniku worth visiting in this yakiniku haven?

From Wholesale Butchers to Restaurant
This shop is unique in that it is both a wholesale butcher and a dine-in restaurant! Locally sourced meat, including high-grade wagyu beef, is cut and packed on-site – it doesn’t get much cheaper than this.

DIY Japanese BBQ for Cheap
Packs are sold in a refrigerated section at the front of the shop. Simply pick out your favorite cuts, pay at the register and head to the dining area. Look out for the half price (半額) sticker on select packs for some real bargains!

Staff will set up your DIY yakiniku grill for you so you can get grilling! Some meats – like beef tongue – may need further cutting before cooking, just ask the staff and they’ll prepare it. Place the cuts on to the grill, brown it to your liking, and enjoy!
It’s certainly no-frills, but when you get to eat quality cuts of meat for bargain prices, what’s not to like?

You might be wondering if they have anything to wash the fatty goodness down – fear not, they have the usual fare. A cold beer is probably the perfect accompaniment to yakiniku and what’s even better is that on rainy days, it’s about $1!
